Leslie Jones at the Olympics

Leslie Jones decked out in her Team USA apparel
and ready to take on the Olympic Games
In case you have somehow avoided every source of the news for the past few weeks, the 2018 Winter Olympic Games kicked off in Pyeongchang, South Korea on Feb. 9. This year's games have already produced tons of interesting stories like Russia being banned from the games due to systematic doping, North Korea sending an 'army of beauties' to penetrate the hearts of enemies, a 17 year old who was born in Cleveland, Ohio winning a gold medal in men's slopestlye (a favorite of mine since I was born in Cleveland as well) and many others.

Leslie Jones, a comedian from "Saturday Night Live," is in the midst of all the action for this year's games. Jones was sent by NBC to Pyeongchang to share her unique take on all the latest news with the rest of the world as an official commentator for the 2018 Winter Games. This is her first time doing this job for the Winter Games, but she was an official commentator for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

You can follow her Twitter and Instagram to keep up to date on the action. Do note that she shares the same posts on both accounts, but does a very good job of live tweeting (or live Instagram posting depending on which way you look at it). I will still go ahead and share some of my favorite moments from her social media channels so if you do follow her accounts you will be up to date on the highlights!

1) Jones Teaches Us Curling Is Really Just the Olympics for Janitors

I think we all knew curling is for janitors, but it is nice to be reminded sometimes. Thanks, Leslie!

2) Jones Cheers on the USA Women's Hockey Team

Jones is apparently a huge fan of the USA Women's Hockey Team. She went to their semifinal the other night (as seen in the tweet above), and Hilary Knight, forward on the hockey team, took the time to tweet Jones and let her know her cheering was heard and helped them win the game. Knight even went so far as to offer Jones tickets for their game on Feb. 22, when the team fights for their third consecutive Olympic gold.

3) Jones Meets Internet's Latest Star, Adam Rippon

Adam Rippon, who earned a bronze medal with the rest of the USA Figure Skating Team, has quickly become an internet star due to his captivating personality, sense of humor and breathtaking figure skating abilities. He has also gained notoriety for being the first openly gay athlete to qualify for the Winter Games from America. Rippon also took a political stance at the games by declining to speak with Vice President Mike Pence after winning bronze in the team event due to Pence's history of homophobia. Along with attention from Jones, Rippon was recently told by Britney Spears how she is a new fan of his via Twitter.

The Winter Games have less than a week left until they return in 2022, so please check out Jones' social media accounts to stay on top of the fast-paced, ever-changing world of the Olympic Games. Also, don't forget to vote on my poll about your favorite Winter Olympic sport (located on the left side of my home page)!
